Mission Statement

AmeriCorps and UW School of Public Health child vision projects and final reports in 2010-13 ignited a firm determination among many in our state to address the non-medical eye coordination problems that have been, for the most part, consistently ignored in our country. In 2013 UW Bothell picked up the challenge with its Educating Young Eyes project based on the reports of these smart young people and the urging of UCLA Professor Gary Orfield for UWB to continue the work of his late wife, Antonia Orfield, who found 53% of the students in Boston's Mather School in Boston unlikely to be good readers without help with their vision problems. The Harvard 2001 Conference on Vision and Literacy featured her six-year study. Well Child Vision is an educational tool to illustrate through videos of struggling children and youth the importance of UWB's EYE Center for Children's Vision, Learning and Technology.
